A hike through this convenient little big forest is the perfect way to spend a morning. A little exercise while you revel in the peace and quiet as you wander through the woods. All the while, the trail will lead you to the perfect picnic spot along the river.

Now I began my journey at the Geneva Wilderness Area. The trail starts with a winding dirt path and a lovely lake view.

There is also a precious little chapel among the foliage. But then you have to hike through a very sandy area with no shade. It will take you out of the Geneva Wilderness Area, and bring you to where trail opens up to the forest.
I would suggest starting at the Flagler Trail-Snowhill Road Trailhead for an easier entrance into the forest. It is basically at the opposite end of where I started and where my hike ended. Once you are out of the neighborhood area you will have a nice tunnel of trees to walk through. The tunnel will lead you towards the Econlockhatchee River.
As I mentioned, my journey started on the other side of the forest. This hike is pretty flat and the path is very wide. Not nearly as narrow and full of twists and turns as the Black Bear Wilderness Trail.
You will have the chance to make some turtle friends! If you see some decent size holes that lead to a tunnel there is probably a turtle in it or one nearby. Don't disturb their home, but keep an eye out!

Near the Econlockhatchee River, there is a great shaded area that is perfect for a picnic!

You can venture down the sandy banks of the river, skip some rocks, and enjoy the tranquility.
If you go back over by the picnic area and get back on the trail you will make your way to the bridge crossing over the river.

After crossing over the bridge, the trail led me to the tree tunnel that you would first enter from the Snowhill Road Trailhead.

From the Geneva Wilderness Area to the end of the forest, the hike was a little over three miles one way. This is a quaint and easy hike for those who want to get out and enjoy some fresh air.
