Shingle Creek Trail

Updated: Sep 5, 2020

This trail is one that seems to appear out of nowhere! It doesn't look like much at the beginning, but once you start you will thoroughly enjoy the journey it takes.

The trail when you start is very grassy. There are two rows on each side made of sand for those who are biking. Giant electrical lines are spread throughout this section of the trail. That part of the trail continues, but I took the first right. Now, this is where you start seeing some cool creatures.

Egrets, ospreys, and other birds are so close. Just chilling in the creek water, not bothered by their human company.

I even saw an alligator taking his late morning nap in the sun.

This trail eventually comes to a roped-off end. But there is a bridge on the right that goes over the creek, and that is when it transports you.

I felt like I was crossing the Bridge to Terabithia. A tree-covered path with lush forest all around you. All of sudden you feel like you are on a true hike.

This trail will have you prancing over bridges and weaving around trees. Eventually, it leads you to the creek bed.

I only did a small section of this trail. I also started from the neighborhood entrance, not from the trailhead entrance. The section I started at is called the Pine Island East Loop. Then after crossing the bridge, you can follow along the river for the rest of it. The first section I walked had no coverage from the sun. The trail does follow the creek, so wearing bug spray to ward off swamp insects is smart. This trail is a nice little break from the craziness of the city. And at the same time very convenient.
