Wild Florida

Updated: May 27, 2023

Ready to get wild?! At Wild Florida, there are plenty of ways to tap into your wild side. Tons of animals to see, encounters to have, and airboat rides to fly you through the swamp.

My friends birthday was coming up, and she wanted to do something to celebrate. Visiting this place has been on my bucket list for a while. I had heard a radio advertisement for their drive-thru safari early that week. I told her I know exactly where we should go to celebrate!

Throughout their zoo, they have a variety of local Florida animals, like the red fox, panther, and of course gators. But they also have animals from all over the world! You can see lemurs from Madagascar, porcupines from Africa, cotton-top tamarins from Columbia, wallabys from Australia, and so much more! There is also a petting zoo that has goats and other farm animals. I loved that, in most of the exhibits, there were different species together. Roommates and buddies from different places, kind of like a college dorm.

Wanna meet a sloth?! We did the sloth encounter where you can meet Chloe and Guy. You will get the chance to meet and pet these cute creatures. Their fur is quite soft and long, very similar to a dog's. Chloe was docile and loves to eat corn!

You have to make reservations for the encounters, because it is limited so as not to overwhelm the animals. They have encounter opportunities with a gator, an albino gator, and a ring-tailed lemur. We did the regular sloth encounter, which was awesome! There is a VIP sloth encounter where you actually get to hold one.

Airboat tours are a staple here in Florida, but I had the unfortunate tendency to write them off. I can't believe I hadn't done one sooner! I love boats, but what is cool about this boat ride is that it doesn't feel like a normal boat ride. You seem to float and glide over the water. For those you can't handle the undulating movement of normal boat rides, this is a boat ride for you. Nothing is cooler than flying through all the reeds and lilies and to have an egret fly right along with you! I felt like Jasmine probably did on that magic carpet.

After all the wild fun we'd been having, we need something refreshing to cool off. They have a stand by the gift shop where you can grab something. They have milkshakes and other frozen treats. I recommend the swamp slushy! Don't let the green fool you. With flavors of orange, passion fruit and lychee all combined, it is a delicious and perfectly themed treat.

Wild Florida has a drive-thru safari. You can see all kinds of deer, zebras, watusi, water buffalo, bison, and a camel.

And they save the best for last...giraffes! You can feed George, Leo, and Walter! You get some lettuce to feed them, which gives you the chance to feel their slimy tongue. You also get a branch with some leaves. I was not prepared for the strength they exhibited when pulling the leaves off the branches. George sometimes eats the branch too.

It was a terrifically wild day!
